The Quilted Crows are Flying In

What does it mean?

It's a workshop with talented quilting teachers, Leonie Bateman and Deirdre Bond-Abel, known collectively as the Quilted Crow gals, coming all the way from Australia!

We are excited and want to share the excitement with you. We have two lovely projects for you to choose from:

Project 1: Betsy's Quilt

54" square, will be taught by Leonie Bateman

Project 2: Crossroads

64" square, will be taught by Deirdre Bond-Abel

You can choose either project and we will have a nice selection of colorful wool for you to work with. You can use Betsy's fabric, "Crossroads to Texas" and also Jo Morton prints or any other 19th century reproduction fabrics for the patchwork and borders. The workshop, "A Gathering of Crows" will be offered two times on the 1st weekend of November 2011. The Saturday session takes place on Saturday, November 5th from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The workshop will be repeated on Sunday, November 6th from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Your cost is $50 for either session. The Quilted Crow Girls will be flying your patterns in with them when they come. Bring your hand sewing supplies, your rotary cutting tools, and some snacks to share, and let's have fun with the Quilted Crow gals from Australia! Space is going to be limited so reserve your spot quickly. You won't want to miss out and your deadline for payment is October 29th so don't delay!

Their trunk show will be in the shop from Tuesday, October 25th through November 6th. We will also have all their patterns available during the Trunk Show. If you can't make it to the Quilted Crows workshop, be sure to stop in sometime and see the trunk show and the great patterns to make the projects. It's going to be fabulous!

We can't wait to get inside and see all of the wonderful treasures . . . quilts, fabric, notions . . . just thinking about it makes us want to be there right now! Go to their website and take a look at some of the photos of the shop - it is just beautiful.

Both Deirdre and I have each designed a project for the ladies on the day featuring our trademark wool applique on reproduction fabrics and are really happy with the final look - just adding the binding and writing the patterns and all will be done!

Both designs, along with some others, will be released at Fall Market in a couple of weeks time, but for those of you who would like to come to the workshop, get in touch with the ladies at Lone Star and they will get you booked in! We will also be doing a trunkshow on the Saturday as well for those who can't make the workshop.

Dates for the workshop are Saturday the 5th and Sunday 6th November.

Beautiful Burgoyne Surrounded Quilt Kit!

Burgoyne Surrounded made by Betsy Chutchian, with assistance by Ann Jernigan, is a stunning example of a scrappy version of this classic quilt design. We used Kaye England's pattern and pulled the best 19th century reproduction fabrics to create a controlled scrappy look in reds, browns, and blacks with a cream background.

You can add a border to the top and bottom of the quilt to make it look just like Kaye England's version. The approximate size of that quilt would be 70" x 76". Kit is available! Click here.

Why Quilts Matter/History Repeated Book Signing Party

Quilting history is very important to us at Lone Star House of Quilts. It is not just about the piecing together of bits of fabric but also includes the history of our country and the events that were important to the people who made the quilts.

If that describes you, then take a look at the new book, History Repeated by Betsy Chutchian and Carol Staehle. Here is a description of the content:

Making a quilt is easier than you might think when you gather some friends and exchange blocks. Let the 19th-Century Patchwork Divas show you how.

Inspired by their love of antique 19th-century quilts, this Texas-based block exchange group recreates these quilted treasures of the past with 1800s reproduction fabrics. The group’s co-founders, Betsy Chutchian and Carol Staehle, have assembled a captivating collection of quilts from past block exchanges.

Ranging from the simplicity of the Double Nine-Patch block to the more challenging Carolina Lily block, there is a project for every skill level among this book’s 16 classic quilts. Each of the chapters features detailed block instructions that you can easily adapt for your own block exchange as well as one to three setting options for completing your quilts.

And for those who prefer to make the quilts individually, each setting option also includes all the necessary block instructions to help you successfully complete the projects from start to finish.

On Saturday, August 20, 2011--we hosted a preview of all our autumn themed projects. The samples were made and hung with care. The goodies were baked and the table was laid with beauty. Everything looked wonderful, due to the great design skills of the talented ladies at Lone Star House of Quilts. Here's a sample of what our visitors got to see--

Antique Stars Quilt is a traditional strippy quilt that features a setting that dates back to the early 1800s. The beautiful toile used in the setting triangles gives the quilt a soft, antique look. The quilt was made by Sonja Kraus and the pattern and photo are by Annette Plog Designs.
