Surrounded by Talent (Beginners) October 2012

It never ceases to amaze me at the degree of beauty and creativity that surrounds me on a daily basis.  We always have the beautiful fabrics coming in and going out and we enjoy that aspect of being in the best little quilt shop very much.  However, it is the people who really do make the difference.
We have just graduated a new class of beginners and these ladies are really so very talented. It was so much fun to watch their progress over a period of six weeks.  Here are some photos from the graduating October Beginners:

Ana amazed us all by learning to do the quilting stitches after a very short lesson.  She took that little bit of information and just ran with it!
This is the design wall for Dr. Diane Rasmussen

Cathy Rowell--I think she loves teaching the beginners!

We also started a new class of beginners in October and I had to warn them they would be featured on the shop blog.  Here they are as they began their quilting journey with us:

Being at Lone Star House of Quilts everyday brings us the opportunity to intereact with many people from many places.  Yesterday, we had a great time with two lovely ladies that were related as aunt and neice.  They came to visit us because someone who had come during the Quilt Across Texas Shop Hop in September recommended that they stop by.  They were delighted with what they found and asked us to pose on the porch so they could take pictures of us with our quilted banner.  Then we took their photo out by our 150 year old Magnolia tree.  Thanks for coming, Sue and Sally, and come back soon!

We're "Always in Stitches" at Lone Star House of Quilts and are looking forward to seeing YOU  very soon!

NEWS FLASH!  We will be open two Sundays in October:  October 21st and October 28th, from 1-5PM.  We have classes on both those afternoons.  Come and see us!

Busy Days for LSHQ/Late Summer 2012

Hello all
Life has been crazy here at Lone Star House of Quilts!  Our Quilt Sampler party was a great success on August 18th.  Thanks to everyone who attended.  We loved seeing everyone there.

The magazines came in two days later but we have them and have plenty so please come get a copy from us.  We will even autograph it for you, if you ask.

We also have kits cut and ready for those who pre-ordered them.  There are a few more ready for sale but please don't delay!

This is a shot from the Quilt Sampler and is used by their permission, as stated above.  Isn't it beautiful???

Closeup shot of the beautiful Batik Oak Alley quilt that Ruth Poole made several years ago.  We are kitting a new version as a Block of the Month starting November.

"Peace" Quilt was made by Kerry McCutchan and appeared in a newspaper article in the "Arlington Citizen Journal" in July.  It's perfect for a Thanksgiving quilt to share with your family.

Student Sheila's version of the Advanced Beginning Quilt--the Christa McAuliffe as taught by Mary Schellhammer.  Another class is forming!

Finished verson of our James River Block of the Month made by Joyce.  She did a great job!

Jane's finished version of our Paper Piecing Class,  taught by Janice Christy
Rob's Halloween Quilt.  Isn't it fun?

Jo, Sally, & Patsy show off their blocks they learned in the Aunt Mary's Club taught by Mary Schellhammer.  Great job, everyone.

Jan's Indigo & Cream quilt.  Wonderful!

Oh my!  North Texas Shop Hop in early September.  This was our sample quilt called "Union Forever".  Everyone in the shop made a block and I put the quilt together and Kerry McCutchan quilted it.  My husband Dave helped with the layout.  Truly a group effort and I think it turned out beautifully.

Oh my stara!  It's Quilt Across Texas II!  This is our sample quilt called "Stars Over Texas".  Made by Janice Christy and pattern by Annette Plog.

Arlington Quilt Show, May 2012

As promised, here are some photos from the Quilt Show put on by The Quilter's Guild of Arlington, Texas in May.  First up on are our booth photos.

This is a personal favorite of mine, make by Pat Madrid.  Her talent here is outstanding!

Here is another by Pat Madrid.  She used our Joshua's Prayer panel in the center and created a beautiful, unique quilt around the center medallion.

This is a beauty made and quilted by one of our favorite customers, Karen Wood.

This is Karen Wood's Texas Star quilt.  It is amazing!

The following quilt photos are from our Ronald McDonald Quilt Challenge.  We provide the fabric and the quilters make the quilts to donate to the local Ronald McDonald House.  Aren't they creative?

This is another personal favorite of mine.  I just loved the red and green applique.  Made by Marilyn Weber, you can see it has a blue ribbon on it.  Well deserved.

The following photos are from our Susan G. Komen Miniature Quilt Silent Auction.  It also includes the Nancy's Pink Challenge which also raises funds for fighting breast cancer. Lone Star House of Quilts is a proud sponsor of these competitions and works of art.

The next two quilts are by two of our Art Quilters's Exhibit.  This first beauty is by Ruth Callahan and showcases the utility stitch quilting that she learned at Lone Star House of Quilts.

The last. cut certainly not the least, is a veiled art creation by Debby Rake.  This beauty definitely tells a story and was made by a very talented quilt historian.

I hope you have enjoyed the quilt show as much as I have.  We love all kinds of quilts at Lone Star House of Quilts!

Quit Sampler Fall 2012

Hello everyone! We are finally able to share the biggest secret this business has ever had. We will be featured as a Top Ten Shop in the Fall 2012 issue of Quilt Sampler Magazine! This has been an amazing experience for us, starting from when we were first notified in February that we had been selected. We have been designing and making a quilt that will be our sample quilt in the magazine article. Then we made another quilt so that we could hang it in the shop. It is on display now and available online as well. We are so excited!!

Here is another showing Dave and I as we received the recognition from Better Homes and Garden and American Patchwork & Quilting:

So long for now. Please sign in with your email so you can post comments and receive these news posts via email.

Quilts coming in! Lone Star House of Quilts

I have been trying to take photos of the events at Lone Star House of Quilts as they happen. I pull that little phone with a camera out of my pocket and start snapping.  I love it when something fun happens that I can share and that happens a lot!

Here are some shots from early April 2012:

First, we have two beautiful examples of our beginner's quilt.  Two quilters who have finished their beginners quilts and are now enrolled in the Advanced Beginning class brought their beauties in to share with us.  These quilts were made from the same class but you can see how the fabric choices make two very different quilts. Both are stunning and we were thrilled to see them.

Detail of Patsy's quilt

Some old favorite quilts popped up in the Jo's Room recently for a publicity shoot.  Aren't they lovely?

This is a photo of a favorite customer bringing in her string quilt to show us.  She loves to buy our little bags of "strings" to make quilts for some of her patients.  This lovely quilter is Julia and she is a nurse by profession who has a large heart and a talent for making beauty from small strings of fabric.

Even the art quilters love our shop and we love their bright and fun designs!  Isn't this LadyBug quilt fun?

We have been waiting for months for Betsy's Bounty of Baskets quilt to come back to her from American Patchwork and Quilting magazine.  This photo was taken the day that it finally arrived.

And here it is hanging up in the shop along with the best selling Hot for Chocolate quilt.  Don't they look lovely together?  We do!

This group of friends were in the shop last week following a retreat nearby.  We so enjoyed having them in the shop and I think they enjoyed their time as well.  They asked us to snap a photo of them by our big magnolia tree.  We love to do this for our visitors.

My Star Spangled Quilt finally made it out of my sewing room!  This is made from the Blueberry Crumbcake Collection from Blackbird Designs for Moda Fabrics.

Here's another quick & easy project for you:  Stars and Stripes is the design and Freedom's Star is the fabric.  Grab a few fat quarters and a background print and you will soon have a lap size quilt.

I hope you enjoyed the quilt photos this week.  It sure was fun!  Hope to see you soon.
